Peace: Free for Taking

We live in a fast-paced world. We worry about and stress over family sickness, finances, careers and the choices that go along with that, wars and rumors of wars, politics, and unrest in the mid-east.

Prior to the peace taught by Jesus in the New Testament, the prophet Isaiah said:

You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.” (Isaiah 26:3)
Isaiah lived in a time of tremendous turmoil and he predicted that more turmoil would come to the world. Godly people would suffer along with everybody else. How should believers cope? Isaiah urged them to focus on a reality greater than their current troubles; to keep their minds steady on God, who never loses control over events.

A similar thought is found in Psalm 46:1:

God is our refuge and strength,
A very present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way,
though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea,
though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling.

Like Isaiah, the Psalmist reminds us that God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Nations continue to be in uproar today. Kingdoms rise and fall. Turmoil is a part of everyday life. But, God’s voice is still heard above it all. He is still in control!

The Psalmist offer us great encouragement in verse 10:
Be still and know that I am God, I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.

Paul writes in Romans 8:31ff:
If God is for us, who can be against us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? In all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loves us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels, nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Seek and pursue the peace that is offered through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, he is eagerly awaiting you.

PRAYER:
"Our Heavenly Father, thank you for the peace that is offered through your promises to us as your children. Thank you for your steadfastness in the past and the promises of the same in the future. Thank you for that everlasting peace that we have through you. In your name we pray Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, Amen.
